The chief of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s police has confirmed that his forces killed four people in post-election violence but declared the situation under control Sunday. It’s “hard to predict” whether the situation will deteriorate further, according to rights watchdog Human Rights Watch (HRW).

Kinshasa holds its breath for DRC election results
Hours away from the announcement of the delayed preliminary presidential election results, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital remains tense. On Thursday there were isolated clashes between riot police and UDPS party supporters in the Limete area of Kinshasa. Many shops and business are shut and most people are staying indoors.

Kabila in pole position ahead of preliminary results
Incumbent president Joseph Kabila leads his main challenger Etienne Tshisekedi by 10 per cent in partial results announced late on Monday. Ahead of Tuesday’s official preliminary results there have been diplomatic efforts to avoid any possible violence. Some residents of Kinshasa have been leaving the city for the safety of Brazzaville.

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s incumbent president Joseph Kabila is leading the presidential election, according to partial results announced on Sunday. The country’s electoral commission said Kabila leads his main rival Etienne Tshisekedi by over 1.5 million ballots.

Kabila leads in partial results from DRC polls
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s incumbent president Joseph Kabila is leading the presidential election, according to partial results announced by the country’s electoral commission on Friday. The figures represent 15 per cent of the country’s polling stations and include almost no results from Kinshasa.

Praise and criticism for DRC elections in observer reports
The results of international and national observation missions to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s 2011 elections were presented in Kinshasa on Thursday. The European Union said the process was “inadequately controlled” while Congolese observers said they had seen irregularities at 15 per cent of polling stations.
